The rest of the week and my birthday was a bust, but it is what it is.

Glad you had a good time. Did you get any cool stuff? I usually go to cons expecting to buy something cool, then come home with nothing. Maybe because my kids always find something I need to buy them. I did get a Serenity movie poster one year.

I got nothing due to being broke. It was $25 just to get in the door.

Have you ever thought about doing a booth on the con circuit and selling art things you have made?

while i agree he could sell his art, its probably more than $25 to rent a booth

I made it through OK. I did cry, but I held myself together by doing what someone on facebook said they do in meetings and stuff. Pretending I was playing a character in a role-playing game. It allowed me to step a little bit back from the emotion and control it rather than letting it control me.

Also last night I drank beer. If my nephew had been able to stay in Duncan I would have drunk whiskey until I fell down.

Today I drove my little brother from Duncan to his home in Longview and then back to Euless. A lot of miles and two pit stops at Bucc ees.

I'm tired and about to go lie down for a bit.

The service was very sad for me. The man who officiated the service is the father of a kid I used to play with when I was a kid. He mentioned me by name. He said he knew what kind of woman my mom was because I was always respectful and polite. That even though he knew we had very little, he never saw me dirty or in shabby clothes.

It kind of got to me a bit and yeah I cried. I mean not wailing and sobbing, but I was glad I had grabbed a hand full of tissues. My older brother gave a eulogy, and several of us were worried that he might get lost in it and kind of pull the spotlight off of her life and onto his own but it turned out he did an admirable job and did got through it without breaking down.

I took paper and pencil with me and drew that little picture while I was in my hotel room that night. I guess I'm a little embarrassed by it. My mom did not like attention being drawn to her and I wonder if she would approve of me sharing something so personal on the facebook.

I do appreciate all the good will everyone has given me. Tomorrow I will do a couple of errands and then get back to my job.

I'm a confirmed stoic.  When my father died it was in similar circumstances.  I didn't get super-emotional about it.  My older brother broke down and cried at the funeral.  I did not.  I honestly wonder if I will feel the loss and want to cry when she goes, or if it will hit me days, weeks or even years later.

I'm a terrible person who worries that I won't cry when my mother dies.

I'm sorry to hear that. That has to be tough on you.  I don't think it makes you terrible if you can't cry. I think it's probably has something to do with when we were raised. The "Men don't cry" "rub some dirt on it" attitude of the 70's and 80's was pretty much the norm when we were kids. I know I have a hard time showing emotion when there is a death in the family. My ex commented on it at my sisters funeral. She didn't understand why I wasn't crying.

I found out yesterday my step father has throat cancer. He's upbeat and confident he can beat it. I hope that's the case. I'm not sure what my mother would do without him. She also had a stoke a few years back. She can get around, but is limited. My step dad does all the cooking, driving and day to day stuff.

I am sorry to hear that Polk. I also know how you feel. My grandmother passed back in 1995. She had a stroke and was hospitalized for about a week before she died. I was 13 years old and did not cry. Recently a family member was going through a box of old family stuff and found her diary. I was flipping through it and all these memories and things I had forgotten came flooding back and later that night I cried my eyes out for a good hour.
