    Poll

Which Christmas traditions are, when you really take the time to think about it, the most baffingly fucking weird?

Mistletoe. The other stuff, I get the story behind. But mistletoe? There's always some jackass at the bar with it hanging on a headband over his head, trying to get kisses, telling women we have to kiss him because of mistletoe. Get away from me, I'm not kissing you.

When I was just slightly older than the believes-in-Santa demographic, I remember being mortified at the idea of even seeing Santa in the local mall. This was a small town and there wasn't an hour-long queue to sit on Santa's lap. You might walk by and he'd be just sitting waiting for kids to want their pictures taken. Worse was when he'd be walking around the mall handing out candy canes. I wanted a piece of candy, but the idea of interacting with Santa sort of horrified me.

I'm not sure what they are planning on doing with them.

That reminds me, I forgot to include "Reducing the most important moment in history (according to christian theologists anyway) to a diorama display.

Dressing your offspring in frightening costumes, then parading them/it around the neighbourhood, going from door to door taking candy from strangers; when at any other time you would tell them to dress properly, never take candy from strangers and then give them heck for eating that much candy.
