Exactly.  I can accept that it's magic. Much like I can accept something called a warp drive will make you go really really fast, simply because the person who wrote it, says it does. I can also accept that in a dystopian future, people are  totally fine with sacrificing their young to a fight in an arena, only to be disappointed that nothing comes of it and they have to do it again. Wait... that sound like the Bachelor.

You might like the YA novel I plan to write someday as a parody of stuff like that.

    THE GAME OF THE NAME

When the world is finally brought under a united rule of law, the emperor of Planet America moves onto addressing one of the biggest problems facing humanity, overpopulation.

Laws are passed that no two people can have the same first name. Everyone who has a name shared by another person must enter a series of death matches until only one remains. John is getting ready for his first melee, but he doesn't like the way of the world, and neither does his best friend Mary. Together they will spark a revolution that is somehow expected to succeed even though the organized military might of the rest of the world has succumbed to the American Empire because... love and youth are powerful things or some shit.

That's one of my biggest gripes. Like when the movie Interstellar came out and Gallen declared it was intentionally biased against the theory of evolution.

The thing that finally broke me was when he was making some dig at some Star Trek series. Something about the warp drive being completely unrealistic. Well, the warp drive is not realistic in another way.  They made...was it the "anti Higgs-Boson" or "anti Heisenberg" device or something to explain away their inablity to explain how to un science science.  Its just a television show.  I mean, attack it for poor pacing, bad acting, badly written script, paltry character motivations but attacking it for not knowing, or not properly displaying "SCIENCE!" or the other thing he was complaining about.  Was it that we don't know how to properly show 17th century housing or communal interactions?  I guess but there are bigger problems.  LIKE HOW IS IT THAT THEY'RE WEARING CLOTHES THAT WERE OBVIOUSLY BIG IN THE 1750S BUT NOT THE 1680S!
Star Trek is full of plot devices like that. There's the "Heisenberg Compensators" that facilitate the transporters by getting around the fact that you can't observe the location of particles without changing them, because the light used to look at them will move them. The funniest one is the "Inertial Dampeners", which allow for things in space to not have to slow down. Someone at a convention asked one of the writers how they work and his response was "Very well." because... duh, it's a made up thing! I oft wonder if the guy was expecting an actual answer, as though the writers of a TV show should know that, and would still be writing TV if they did, as opposed to making a fuck load of money by patenting the thing.

I love the bit in The Strain where it turns out that vamps are the result of a worm parasite taking over the body and altering it significantly. The way it mixes the science approach and the super natural approach to vampires is fun.

This is a safe and loving place. If you guys get annoyed with something I do, please tell me. I have little interaction with people outside of work on a daily basis, and we all know how THAT goes, so I'm sure sometimes I can be a little crazy. Please don't let me turn into Gallen or a Tupper Adam joke.

I thought the show was hilarious the first season. Now it just seems the same every time. Him yelling and cussing and doing the same bits over and over. I get it, Janice in accounting don't give a fuck.

I found it less funny in the second season for some of the same reasons. The Janice in accounting bit definitely got tired.

I missed all the Tupper Adam drama somehow.  So I don't really know details, just barebones info.  But yea, it does seem like "enough already, why keep bringing up this guy?"

    Abraxas is a special animal.

His beef with Tupper Adam stems from an art contest LYT ran on topless robot.

There were only about a dozen entries, but Tupper Adam submitted one. He is, or fancies himself, a professional artist, so I think he thought he was a lock to win whatever movie poster or porn DVD LYT was giving away at the time.

He didn't win, not even an honorable mention. And he proceeded to post a furious comment about how the site had gone to shit after Rob left, how he was done with it, and he was blocking the site and everyone associated with it.

Abraxas saw that as an opportunity to teach him a lesson in humility.  It was funny as hell, but yeah, it kind of became a sort of Internet bullying. And a lot of us participated to one extent or another.
Yeah, the bit with Tupper was funny for maybe the first year, but after that it became something that either induced eye rolling or a need to explain things. When I did my list about found footage movies, I suggest to Luke that I could create an entry for a fake movie as an April Fools joke. I even have a fake trailer that I posted on Youtube for the hell of it back in 2006. He said not to worry about it, because he had something set up already, and it turned out to be another dig at Tupper Adam.

I think it was something about how this family that moved out to the woods to freely practice their religion that was more strict than that of the town would actually NOT do this because the religious leaders of the town wouldn't let them. And then some rambling about how living in a town was the only way to survive or something. I guess people didn't actually live OUT of a town ever in the history of the world? People had farms but they actually walked the 20 miles roundtrip every day so they could live in TOWN?

He did file a police report. I'm not sure if the bills were counterfeit, or some legal imitation. The guy knew what he was doing so I don't think he would risk the time for passing counterfeits. Told him to meet him at Applebees because he was having dinner with friends. Flagged him down in the parking lot, waved him over a spot with little light. He was friendly, introduced himself, counted out the bills and and made small talk while my son took the cash. Then grabbed the Xbox, dropped a controller and my son offered to help him carry it to his car, he tried to talk him out of it, so my son wouldn't have a description of the car. He had paper plates on his ride, so they couldn't get a plate number if they wanted to. He drove passed one camera on the way out, but with no tags it won't help.
When my son got back in his car, he noticed the bills seemed thicker and saw there was no face on it and the serial numbers were all the same and positioned wrong on the bill. That why I think they were some pretend money, not funny money.

Life lesson. I've been scammed before and it's embarrassing and you kick yourself for not knowing better, but he's only out a $150 he paid for it. Confronting him might have gone worse, since the guy was 6'3 240 and had a friend.

Cops said it was unlikely that he would see his Xbox again. They even said if he had been assaulted it would bring out the bigger guns. I get that. You have to watch out for yourself. I'm a big supporter of LEO's. I do lots of gun deals with officers. They can't be everywhere and they have to prioritize.

If nothing else, you could get some pics of the camera footage and print 'em out with text warning people.

Chances are that the douche knuckle got away scot free, but it'd be nice to spread the word.

Oh boy, I kinda wanna go take a look, but it's too early right now (for me anyway, I just woke up).

If you're looking, Citrus posted a comment last night about Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.  I made a comment, too.  Not about abortion, just that we were watching it.  And then this morning, we have Gallen.

I'll have to catch up on the show. I didn't realize until mid last week that the new season had started. I dakied the first episode and sat on it. yesternight I dakied episode 2 and still haven't caught up. I'll get around to it eventually.

By the way, speaking of irritants from the ol' gang... is it me, or is Abraxas's constant thing with finding a reason to make jokes about that Tupper guy getting really old? As in, "that horse has been flogged into hamburger and the hamburger has thrown in a blender and turned into a rancid protein shake" old.

Ah, yes, one of my favorite things-people coming in my office looking for stamps and envelopes for personal mail, and then getting mad when I don't have those things. "What do you mean, you don't keep stamps for people to buy?' And it magically becomes my fault they can't mail their bills in today. Excuse me, jackass, we all get an hour for lunch, take your ass to the post office.

I'm having one of those days where I want to shut my door and tell everyone I'm not here.

    Polk and Jack,
